ASHLAND, Wis. - Drummond, Wis. used a huge first quarter to help carve out a 54-41 win over Ewen-Trout Creek in a non-conference game at Northland College in Ashland on Monday night.
Drummond outscored the Panthers 26-8 in the first quarter and and never looked back.
"We made a few careless passes and they jumped out early," E-TC coach Brad Besonen said. "We lost (Jake) Fibert out there. He had 14-points with all four of his 3s. We had a mental lapse and he's a good shooter. He got his confidence and threw everything in. We buried ourselves in the first quarter."
Besonen said the Panthers played good man-to-man defense the rest of the way and their big people played good basketball.
"(Nick) Hearns had his best fourth quarters and that was encouraging," Besonen said. "We played a lot better in our half-court offense after the first quarter.
Drummond took a 36-18 half-time advantage and the game was played evenly in the second half.
Besonen said Andy Meverden did a good job on defense and Hearns also played well for the Panthers.
Lane Brown led E-TC's scoring with 16 points
The Panthers (3-14, 0-3 PMC) travel to Watersmeet for a Porcupine Mountain Conference battle on Monday night.
