APPLETON, Wis. - John R. Lahti, 95, of Appleton, Wis., passed away Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Renaissance Assisted Living.
He was born June 18, 1918, in Hancock, to the late Emil and Ingrid (Honkavaara) Lahti.
John served his country in the Army Air Corps.
He married Effie Maki on October 5, 1940, she preceded him in death in 2006. John loved golfing, hunting, and watching hockey, but especially the time he spent with his family. He was truly proud of his Finnish heritage.
He is survived by his sons, Dennis (Beth) and Gary (Roxy); grandchildren, Tim (Becky), Jenny (Mike), Scott (Sherrell), Stefani (John), Brian, Tom and Mike; great grandchildren, Audrey, Jaxon, Hannah and Isiah. He is further survived by his sister, Jean (Bob) Olson; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Effie; four brothers and one sister.
Funeral services for John will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2014, in Valley Funeral Home.
Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
Burial will take place in Highland Memorial Park.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Renaissance Assisted Living for their care and compassion shown to John during his stay.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in John's name.
