Ray Brice tallied the opener unassisted for the Gremlins (21-3), but the Jets stabilized things for much of the first period, even tying it up at 9:18 of the first period on a goal from Anthony Harris.
The tie lasted 71 seconds when the first of three goals from Connor Hannon gave Houghton the lead. Hannon finished with both a hat trick and a playmaker.
Riley McKay and Brice scored nine seconds apart late in the first period to give Houghton a 4-0 lead.
The Gremlins scored six times in the second period to trigger the goal-differential rule and end the game.
Brice finished with two goals and two assists, while Red Pietila had a goal and four helpers. Jed Kallio tacked on two goals.
Dax Durocher made 10 saves for Jeffers, which completes the regular season 15-9-1.
Houghton, which got 10 saves from Jayson Wiitala, plays its regular season at Hancock Thursday.
