EWEN - Dollar Bay capped its girls' basketball regular season with a special night Wednesday as guard Julia Daavettila reached 1,000 points in a 63-32 non-league win at Ewen-Trout Creek.
Daavettila, a senior, scored 30 to accomplish the feat, hitting the number exactly on a breakaway layup from Jamie Sertich's outlet pass with six minutes remaining in the game.
DB coach Steve Krahling spoke of what the accomplishment meant to the Bays' program, which clinched its first Copper Country Conference title in a generation last week.
"For me and for the rest of the team, they worked hard. They knew where she was at. This is real big for them to come through and help her," he said.
"To have a 1,000-point scorer, that gives all the other girls something to shoot for."
DB (15-5) took over the game by outscoring E-TC (2-17) 21-4 in the second quarter for a 33-13 lead.
