LAURIUM - Allen L. Bessonen, 76, a resident of Laurium, passed away early Tuesday morning, March 18, 2014.
He was born May 30, 1937, in New Allouez, a son of William and Edna (Kahkonen) Bessonen. He was a graduate of Calumet High School.
Allen worked as an electrician for Detroit Local 58, retiring in 1996.
On August 2, 1957, he married the former Joyce Parkinen. She preceded him in death in 1997.
Allen was a good-hearted soul along with being an avid sportsman, hunter, fisherman, snowmobiler, and four-wheeler. He loved the U.P. He loved spending the summer at his camp in Big Traverse along with camp in St. Helen, Mich., and then wintering on Franklin St. in Laurium.
He leaves behind two daughters who work and live downstate, Kathlyn (Jeff) Bohr of Plymouth, Mich., and Marcia West of Farmington Hills, Mich.; three grandchildren, Hunter, Gunnar and Matthew; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, March 22, 2014, in the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet. Pastor Elmer Liimatta is to officiate.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.
Spring Burial will be in the Waasa Cemetery.
