HASTINGS, Neb. - Hastings resident, Shirley A. Keeler, 76, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Neb.
Shirley was born November 22, 1937, in Calumet, to Oscar and Wilma (Kinnunen) Nuottila.
She enjoyed (ice) figure skating and skated as a soloist. She took ballet classes during the summers to stay in shape for the winter skating season. She played the French horn in the Calumet High School marching band, where she graduated in 1955. After graduation, she worked at secretarial and clerical jobs. Shirley married Gordon "Pete" Keeler; he preceded her in death on May 22, 1998. She worked as a paralegal for Seiler & Parker Law Firm and was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, "Pete" Keeler; brother, Robert Nuottila; father-in-law, Lowell Keeler; and grandson, Joren Keeler.
Survivors include children and spouses, Paige and Jeff Briggs of Littleton, Colo., Brenda Keeler of Lincoln, Neb., and Jeffrey and Lori Keeler of Glenvil, Neb.; grandchildren, Bethaney Ahrens, Michaela Niedbalski, Alaina Smidt, Lacey Keeler, Adam Schmidt, Gavin Keeler and Devoney Keeler; great grandchildren, Kyler Ahrens and Brentley Wolfe-Schmidt; sister and spouse, Nancy and Geoff Donnan of Fellsmere, Fla.; sister-in-law, Judi Nuottila of Lake Linden; mother-in-law and spouse, Arlene and Dean Seifert of Clyde, Kan.; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be Thursday, April 3, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating.
Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Neb..
Memorials may be given to First St. Paul's Lutheran Church or American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 2, 2014, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family present 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home, and one hour prior to service in the church.
