HOUGHTON - Alice Veronica Franz, 94, a longtime resident of Houghton, died at the Omega House on Saturday, April 18, 2014 with her family by her side. She was the last of the nine siblings in the family.
She was born in Chassell on February 8, 1920 to the late Charles and Josephine (Martell) Destrampe. She was a 1938 graduate of Chassell High School. Alice worked at Michigan Tech for 25 years in food service, retiring in 1982.
She was married on April 19, 1941 to Leonard I. Franz in Chassell. They made their home in Houghton in 1945 and resided there until his passing in 2005. Later that year Alice moved to the Bluffs, where she was able to enjoy an active life with many new friends, both residents and staff.
She was a member of Saint Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton.
She is survived by her three children, Pat Rotundo of Hancock, Joyce Croze of Ishpeming, and Gary (Barb) Franz of Iron River; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren with another due in September; and by many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, John Croze; two sisters; and six brothers.
Private family services will be held on Wednesday in the O'Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock with Rev. Fr. John Martignon to officiate.
Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.
There will be no visitation at the request of the deceased.
