Calumet High School honored the Class of 2014 in an assembly Thursday morning and presented the George Gipp All-American Trophy and the Holly Jean McCullah Athletic Award to its top male and female senior athletes, respectively.
This year's Gipp Award winner is Paul Torola. Torola earned nine varsity letters at CHS, including four in basketball, three in track and two in football.
On the basketball court, Torola was named to the All-U.P. Class ABC Second Team in 2014 to go with All-WestPAC First Team honors in both 2013 and 2014. Torola was also All-WestPAC Second Team in football in 2013 and All-State in the 110-meter hurdles in 2013. Torola accomplished a 3.63 grade-point average.
Megan Yeo is the 2014 Holly Jean McCullah Athletic Award winner. Yeo had four career CHS letters, two in volleyball, one in golf and one in softball (where she was a captain in the program's inaugural year). She was also a mainstay in the Keweenaw Storm 18-U girls' hockey program.
Yeo, who had a 3.538 GPA, was named All-WestPAC and All-Region in volleyball during the fall 2013 season. (DMG photo by Michael Bleach)
