HOUGHTON - Isabelle Cleary struck out 18 batters as Aspirus Keweenaw defeated Calumet 12-2 in a Minor (age 9-10) softball game Saturday.
Kalli Chynoweth had four hits in the game, Cleary three and Adelie Kari, Haley Schjoth and Kaydence Kilpela all had two.
In a big Major (age 11-12) baseball showdown between league leaders J. Peltier Construction (Portage Lake) and Loading Zone II (Keweenaw), Isaiah Little drove in nine runs as J. Peltier rolled to a 15-6 victory.
Little had a two-RBI single in the first, a three-run homer to right-center in the second, a two-RBI double in the third and a two-RBI single in the fourth in a 4-for-4 day.
J. Peltier scored at least twice in every inning, holding a healthy 8-1 lead after two.
Davin Hill was the winning pitcher, allowing four runs on four hits in two innings and totaling four strikeouts. Ethan Jarvela went the next 2 1/3, allowing two runs on five hits with two K's and Taylor Gardner finished it off, allowing one hit over the last 1 1/3.
Jackson Rocchi had three hits and scored four times for the winners, while Hill had two hits and scored three runs.
For the Loading Zone, Carter Crouch went 3-for-4. Kellen Klein, Nick Djerf and Caleb Gregorie had two hits apiece, with Djerf and Jesse Hill driving in two runs each. Hill hit a tape-measure shot over both fences onto the adjacent softball field at the Driving Park.
Five Matt's Auto Glass hitters had multi-hit games in a 12-6 interleague baseball win over Lassila Insurance.
Baxter Laitila Yeates, Ari Rautiola, Eli Larson, Jiseung Choi and Lars Massie had the hits.
For Lassila, Hunter Rowe led the way offensively with a pair of hits.
Saturday at Hancock Driving Park, Auto Pro Glass and Tire downed the Portage Health Green Sox 16-6.
Chad Nordstrom had a single and a double in the win. Austin Miller also had two hits.
Nick Horning had a single and double in defeat, while Jonah Horning also had two hits.
