HOUGHTON - Bridgefest kicks off today and with that is a plethora of events to entertain.
Before the parade gets started, there will be a BBQ at the Holiday Inn in Houghton from 5 to 8 p.m. Starting at 10 a.m. today going through sunset are helicopter rides at the Ramada Inn in Hancock.
At 5:30 p.m. the parade line-up begins in Hancock near Gino's Restaurant. At 7 p.m. the parade begins. Also at 7 p.m. at Houghton Beach will be local chainsaw carving artist Rich Pethtel.
After the parade there will performances by Marty's Goldenaires and the Blue Notes at the Ray Kestner Park Bandshell.
On Saturday morning there will be street hockey games starting at 8:30 a.m. at Laurn Grove Rink in Hancock. Helicopter rides will again be available at the same time and place as Friday. Starting at 10 a.m. is the Portage Health Keweenaw Chain Drive Festival. At 11 a.m. is the Bridgefest Car Show, which will be held at the Keweenaw Aspirus Medical Arts Parking Lot (Houghton Waterfront). Chainsaw carving artist Rich Pethtel will be at Houghton Beach from noon to 7 p.m. At dusk will be the Jon Davis Memorial Fireworks over the Portage Lake waterway.
Sunday, helicopter rides continue at the Ramada Inn in Hancock from 10 a.m. to sunset. Starting at 10 a.m. at the Hancock Beach will be the Yooper Sprint triathlon.
