HOUGHTON CANAL - John "Jack" Williams, 85, a resident of the Houghton Canal, passed away Sunday afternoon, June 29, 2014, at the Omega House in Houghton following a lengthy illness.
He was born on February 7, 1929, in Hancock a son of the late Montague and Lillian (DesRochers) Williams. Jack was a graduate of the Hancock High School with the class of 1946.
Shortly after graduation, he helped build a new home for his parents in Houghton. He had resided in Houghton since that time.
Mr. Williams was employed with Upper Peninsula Power Company for 43 years retiring in 1991 as a superintendent of meters.
On April 5, 1951, he was united in marriage to the former Patricia McDonnell.
Jack was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton.
He was a jack-of-all-trades. He enjoyed tinkering and helping with many projects at home and at church. He also enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing and gardening.
Preceding him in death were his infant son; his parents; his brother, James; and his sister, Marjorie Knight.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Williams of the Houghton Canal; his daughters, Joan Williams of Marshfield, Wisconsin, Peggy Kuharchik of Marshfield, Wisconsin; his grandchildren, Jamie, Jennifer, Eric, Ashley, Daniel and Megan; his great grandchildren, Emilee, David, Nicholas, Jayden, Kylee, Braylynn, Kaylyn, Lyllyan and Julia; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins
A Mass of Christian burial for Jack will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014, in the St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton with Fr. John Martignon to celebrate.
Friends may call on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. in St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the church.
