HOUGHTON - Plea bargains were reached in two cases that had been slated to go to trial in Houghton County Circuit Court this week.
Travis Koupus, 27, of Houghton, pleaded guilty to third-degree fleeing and eluding, as well as aggravated stalking, both five-year felonies.
Another count of aggravated stalking, as well as two counts of assaulting/ resisting and obstructing a police officer were dismissed in the plea agreement.
After being involved in a domestic situation at Walmart in April, Koupus led police on a chase of up to 90 miles an hour until police stopped pursuit in Dollar Bay. Police arrested Koupus after finding him in a Laurium residence three days later.
Also scheduled to go to trial was Lori Juopperi, 51, of Laurium, who pleaded guilty to attempted embezzling of $1,000 or more but less than $20,000, a two-and-a-half-year felony. In a preliminary hearing transcript, the estimated value of the amount embezzled was put at about $4,220.
A five-year count of embezzling between $1,000 or more but less than $20,000 was dismissed in a plea bargain.
Both Koupus and Juopperi are scheduled for sentencing on Aug. 27.
