Cody Spagnotti, 18, waived his preliminary hearing during an appearance in 97th District Court Thursday morning.
Matthew Tingstad, the attorney representing Spagnotti Thursday, said plea negotiations with Prosecutor Donna Jaaskelainen are ongoing.
"We'll head up to Circuit Court now and see where we're at," he said after the hearing.
Spagnotti was arrested in June for an incident that allegedly occurred in April. The alleged victim was 12 at the time, Jaaskelainen said at an earlier hearing last month. If found guilty, he could be sentenced for up to life in prison. Spagnotti is lodged in the Keweenaw County Jail on $1 million bond.
