HOUGHTON - The Copper Country Rock & Mineral Club held its annual Copper Country Gem and Mineral Show Friday through Sunday
The Club's show packed the parking lot at Houghton Elementary School, with 10 dealers from as far away as Tennessee exhibiting.
"This is our major fundraiser for the year," said club president Norm Gruber, who said the club has about 70 members. Most are older, he said, but one 11-year-old signed up during the event, and there is interest in starting a group specifically for youth.
Along with regular monthly meetings with talks from geologists and other experts, Gruber said the club also arranges digs at local mine rock piles, arranging permission from owners and using a bulldozer to give access to rocks not yet picked over. For more information on the club, go to ccrmc.info.
