Calumet’s Wickstrom scores 31 in win over West Iron County
IRON RIVER — Hailey Wickstrom scored a career-high 31 points to lead the Calumet Copper Kings past the West Iron County Wykons, 54-34, in a West-PAC matchup Thursday in Iron River.
“Hailey stepped up and played like a senior,” Calumet head coach Jeff Twardzik said. “She really dominated the paint.”
Calumet (2-0, 1-0 West-PAC) controlled the game from the first quarter, where they took a 20-7 lead after the first. The Copper Kings’ lead extended to 36-15 by halftime.
“The most exciting thing was the overall team play, especially on defense,” Twardzik said. “We have a way to go, but we took a step forward. They started playing Calumet ball.”
Up next, Calumet heads to Hancock on Tuesday.
