Boys roundup: Jeffers wins 9th in a row; Calumet puts up 90 in win over LL-H
L’ANSE — Jaden Wood scored 25 points to lead the Jeffers Jets to their ninth straight victory, a 73-45 win over the L’Anse Purple Hornets Friday in L’Anse.
Nathan Maki added 11 points and Carson Turner had 10 for the winners.
“Give Jeffers all the credit in the world,” L’Anse head coach Kyle Koski said. “They’d literally shoot it from everywhere, and they have seniors who can take it to the hole.
“They’re one of the best teams we faced this year.”
Logan Fish led the Purple Hornets (5-13) with 22 points, while Brandt Tembreull recorded 14 potions and 22 rebounds for a double-double.
L’Anse trailed by nine in the second quarter before Jeffers pushed their lead to 19.
Next, L’Anse hosts Hancock on Tuesday; Jeffers welcomes Baraga on the same day.

LAKE LINDEN — The Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes had no answer for the Calumet Copper Kings’ David Kaipio as he led all scorers with 25 points to help the Copper Kings earn a 90-63 victory over the Lakes Friday night.
Kaipio scored 11 of his 25 points in the opening quarter including nine points from 3’s. He added one more 3-pointer in the fourth quarter to give him four on the night.
The Copper Kings used Kaipio’s 11 points to jump out to a 22-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Calumet’s Matthew Ojala scored nine of his 20 points as the Copper Kings scored 24 points to give themselves 46 by the half.
Jason Sutherland, who paced the Lakes with 18 points, scored seven of those points to help the Lakes (6-13) put up 21 in the second quarter.
The Copper Kings’ defense tightened up in the third quarter, holding the Lakes to just nine points while they spread the offense around, scoring 23 points led by eight points from Cooper Twardzik.
Next, LL-H goes to Chassell on Tuesday; Calumet (13-5) hosts Houghton on the same day.
