E-TC defeats Bessemer 65-39

REPUBLIC — Ewen-Trout Creek rediscovered its shooting touch in a 65-39 win over Bessemer Monday night in a MHSAA Class D District 127 opener.

The Panthers shot 53 percent from 2 and 40 percent from 3 after struggling late in the regular season.

“It was nice to have a good shooting night where we were hot and it was going in for us,” E-TC coach Jacky Besonen said.

E-TC’s man press held Bessemer to three points in the second quarter. The Panthers scored 22 in the frame and led 40-14 at the half.

Paige Berglund and Elise Besonen both had 18 points to lead E-TC. All of Berglund’s points came in the first half and Besonen had 13 before halftime.

Emily Driesenga had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Gracie Witt played well defensively, she had four steals, six boards and six points.

E-TC (12-6) plays Crystal Falls Forest Park, the No. 2 ranked team in the U.P. in Class D, Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. EST.
