Michigan Tech’s Heise, Anderson earn GLIAC honors

BAY CITY. Mich. – The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team had two players selected for Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason honors, announced Friday night by the conference office. Senior guard Morgan Anderson was named to the All-GLIAC First Team and redshirt junior Brenna Heise was picked for the All-GLIAC Second Team.

Anderson, who hails from De Pere, Wisconsin, powers the Michigan Tech offense with a 16.0 points per game scoring average. She is currently fifth in the GLIAC in scoring and has been named the GLIAC North Division Player of the Week three times during the 2016-17 campaign. Anderson has recorded 10 or more points in 23 games this season, including a career high 29 points at top ranked Ashland University on January 5th.

Anderson also surpassed 1,000 career points February 16th at Grand Valley State University, making her just the 23rd player in Michigan Tech women’s basketball history to join the 1,000-point club.

Anderson owns 1,062 career points going into the GLIAC Final Four on Saturday at Ashland. In addition to her point totals, Anderson is second in the GLIAC in assists per game (4.4) and has hauled down an average of 4.5 rebounds per contest.

Heise, who is from New London, Wisconsin, is second on the team in scoring at 11.8 points per game and is the top rebounder on the club at five boards per contest. She also averages 1.2 steals and 1.5 assists per contest. Heise has two double-doubles this year and has scored 20 or more points three times, including a career high 24 points at Southern Indiana on November 27th.

Heise has dialed in 47.9 percent of her shots from the field and is an outstanding free throw shooting, converting 91.7 percent of her attempts at the charity stripe.



Heise was picked as the GLIAC North Division Player of the Week in week five of the season after helping guide the Huskies to wins at Lake Erie and Ohio Dominican. Heise scored 22 points and had 12 rebounds at Lake Erie and followed it up with 17 points and five rebounds at Ohio Dominican. Heise has recorded a career high 318 points so far this season heading into the GLIAC Tournament Final Four, amassing 678 career points.



The Huskies will face No. 1 ranked Ashland University Saturday on the road in the GLIAC semifinals at 2 p.m. The winner will advance to the championship game Sunday at 3 p.m.
