Hill leads Auto Pro Glass and Tire to 6-5 win over Mattila Rock and Dock
HOUGHTON — Hannah Hill pitched and batted Auto Pro Glass and Tire to a 6-5 Copper Country Women’s Softball League win over Mattila Rock and Dock Wednesday evening.
Hill checked Mattila Rock and Dock on just four hits while walking three and striking out four batters.
“Hannah (Hill) did a nice job tonight,” Auto Pro coach Laura Berg said. “She was able to keep them off balance with different speeds on her pitches.”
Auto Pro, which won its first game of the season after dropping the first four, scored four times in the opening inning.
“Scoring early helped us,” Berg said. “It was nice to get a good start.”
Hill contributed a key double in the opening rally against starter and losing pitcher Marrtti Jahfetson.
After Mattila Rock and Dock tallied a single run in the second frame, Auto Pro scored two more runs in the top of the third inning for a 6-1 margin.
Mel Baker came on to relieve Jahfetson in the third and held Auto Pro scoreless after that in the six-inning contest at the Chassell Field.
Mattila, 3-3 so far, made it close by scoring two runs in the fourth and fifth innings, Baker and Darla Mensch getting key base raps.
Auto Pro managed six hits, two of those by Hill. That included a double. Baker had two hits for Mattila.
Mattila will play Frank Douglas Agency on Friday in Chassell.
Auto Pro will be idle until a Monday game versus Northern Michigan Landbrokers in Chassell.
