Chassell, Houghton earn Over 50 softball victories
TAPIOLA — After waiting nearly a month to play a game because of the weather, the Chassell Over 50 Softball League softball team scored a big win Thursday.
A sacrifice fly by Daryl Putala in the bottom of the seventh inning provided the difference in a 7-6 victory over South Range.
Pat Duguay laced out three hits for winners, while Gordy Koski and Putala added two apiece.
Tom LeGault had three hits for previously unbeaten Range.
Mitch Lake was the wining pitcher, giving up ten hits. Losing pitcher Joe Rossi allowed nine safeties.
In the other game, Houghton downed Tapiola by a 12-5 score.
LeGault was the winning pitcher, while Len Juntunen took the loss.
LeGault had three hits for the victors along with Kevin Tormala and Jed Pollard.
Jim Oikarinen poked out four hits for Tapiola, with Steve Bella and Jay Fish adding three apiece.
Range and Houghton are tied for first in the league with 4-1 records.
