CHASSELL — Superior National Bank had all of its pitchers on hand Monday night for a Copper Country Women’s Softball League matchup against Mattila Rock and Dock.

Unfortunately for Mattila R&D, its main hurler, Mel Baker, was unable to make the game.

That was the advantage SNB needed to register a 10-0 victory on a warm evening at the Chassell Ball Park.

“They (Mattila R&D) were kind of at a disadvantage with Mel (Baker) not out there,” SNB coach Adena Anderson said. “And we kind of jumped on them at the beginning of the game.”

The eventual winners plated four runs in the opening inning against starting and losing hurler Grace Laitila, whose defense didn’t help her in the inning.

SNB added two more runs in the third and chased across four runs in the fourth inning to end the game.

Adena Anderson was the winning pitcher, while Larissa Anderson also saw late mound duty.

Adena Anderson and Katie Sturos picked up two hits each for SNB.

Laitila was the only Mattila batter with two raps.

Now 6-3 on the season, SNB will prepare for the league All-Star game Friday in Chassell.
