Chassell girls, Houghton boys, take 1st at Kilpela Farms XC meet

HANCOCK — The Chassell Panthers girls and Houghton Gremlins boys were victorious in the Kilpela Farms cross country meet Monday in Hancock.

Chassell finished with 39 points to edge the Calumet Copper Kings (74), while the Houghton Gremlins took first over the Gogebic Miners with a score of 25 to 49.

Chassell’s Lela Rautiola finished in 21 minutes, 19 seconds to beat Houghton’s Anabel Needham for the top spot in the girls race.

On the boys side, Houghton took the top two spots with Clayton Sayen finishing in 17:02 to finish ahead of Seth Helman (17:16).

Chassell’s Ben Tuomi took fourth, and Joe Wood of Houghton rounded out the top five.
