Team CC earns 2 wins

DULUTH, Minn. — This past weekend, Team Copper Country followed their recent tournament victory in Ohio with a strong showing in Duluth. Taking on Thunder Bay, Team CC earned a pair of 4-0 wins on Saturday to keep their fast start going.

In the opening game, Team CC started quickly with a goal just 5 minutes, 3 seconds in. Hancock’s Alex Nordstrom came up with what would stand as the game-winner. Houghton’s Brendan Erickson and Hancock’s Teddy Randell both assisted on the goal.

Marquette’s Joe Phillips and Houghton’s Dawson McKay both scored second-period tallies. McKay’s goal, which came just 2:26 after Phillips’, was scored on the power play. Houghton’s P.J. Donnelly picked up an assist on Phillips’ goal while Calumet’s Brent Loukus and Nordstrom assisted on McKay’s.

Kingsford’s Dante Fortner sealed the victory for Team CC with a goal with 10 seconds left in regulation.

In the afternoon game, Team CC struck twice in 3:40 late in the first period to take control of the contest.

Randell got things started with a power play goal at 11:04. Loukus picked up the lone assist on the tally. Loukus then scored Team CC’s second goal at 14:44. McKay and Fortner both picked up assists.

Randell struck again 3:17 into the third with Phillips picking up an assist.

Fortner sealed the victory with his second goal of the day at 12:50 of the third.
