Cal girls lose to MQT

MARQUETTE — The Redettes opened up the game with a nice run and then used a strong third quarter to get the victory.

Claudia Hale led Marquette with 14 points, while Sydney Kivi had 10 points and 11 rebounds. Brooke Kainiemi had 11 points for Calumet.

The Redettes started the game with an 8-0 run and led 16-8 after the first quarter. However, Calumet fought its way back into it in the second quarter to trail by four at the half at 26-22. Marquette wasn’t deterred though as it outscored Calumet 17-8 in the third quarter to break the game open.

Reddettes coach Ben Smith also said as the season is starting to wind down that his team needs to focus on the basics if it wants to go far in the postseason.

“We need more consistent stretches of fundamental play,” he said.
