Finlandia men get hot, defeat Silver Lake 96-84
MANITOWOC, Wis. — The Finlandia men’s basketball team (4-11) beat Silver Lake (3-17) 96-84, Saturday afternoon at Blue Devil Arena.
“We executed very well in the first half offensively,” coach Mike O’Donnell said. “We ran through our sets and finished plays by hitting from perimeter and post. The second half we were better defensively for the first 15 minutes and were able to create some separation. They made a small charge toward the end but we were able to hold them off.
“We continue to get better offensively and it’s because we are more balanced. Five guys in double figures is what we need every game. Myles (Ellington) had a super game and not just from a scoring standpoint, he’s really growing as a floor general, getting us in the right sets on both ends of the floor.”
Shooting was a big key for the Lions as they hit 52 percent from the floor and 57 percent on 3s. FinnU held the Lakers to just nine second-chance points.
For Finlandia, sophomore Geoff Smart had 19 points and five assists, freshman Myles Ellington had 19 points and seven assists, junior Austin Carlson had 18 points and 10 rebounds, junior Brandon Robinette had 16 point.
The FinnU women lost 69-47 to Silver Lake.
Finlandia remains on the road, Saturday, taking on Northwestern (Minn.). The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
