Finlandia men lose to Crown 80-72

NEW ULM, Minn. — The Finlandia University men’s basketball team (4-13) lost 80-72 to Crown (3-17), Sunday afternoon at Crown Gym. 

In the first half, Crown led by seven only to have the Lions come back.

Freshman Tristan Johnston dropped in a 3-pointer. That made it 29-28 FinnU with 4:06 to go in the first half. Crown came back to lead by five.

The first seven minutes of the second half were the same as the first. The Knights made a move and looked to be in control, up 66-54 with 7:35 to go.

Finlandia shifted into high gear and went off on a 14-4 run over the next four minutes. Sophomore Rakeem Beal hit a bucket to make it 70-68 with 3:28 left. That was as close as the Lions could get.

For Finlandia, junior Brandon Robinette had 17 points, freshman Myles Ellington had 16 points and nine rebounds and Johnston scored 14 with four 3s. Beal had eight points and eight rebounds off the bench.

For Martin Luther, Austin DeNoyer had 24 points and 11 rebounds and Nate Lindloff had 17 points.

Finlandia returns home, Saturday, playing Bay College. The game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
