Boys roundup: Turner gets triple-double in Jeffers’ win over LL-H

PAINESDALE — Carson Turner had 13 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds for a triple-double as Jeffers (7-6, 5-5) defeated visiting Lake Linden-Hubbell 56-42 on Monday in a Copper Mountain Conference matchup.

“Carson was finding a lot of guys in transition,” Jeffers coach Trent Keteri said. “Multiple times he split defenders on full-court bounce passes for easy layups. They were jumping ball screens a lot, leaving him able to find guys cutting inside.”

David Jukkala led the Jets with 18 points.

“They didn’t really have anyone to guard David inside,” Keteri said. ” … He played tough and shot with confidence.”

LL-H (3-10, 3-8) was led by Caleb Gregoire and Ben Wilson with 10 points each.

L’ANSE — The Ishpeming Hematites had too much size and athleticism for the L’Anse Purple Hornets in a 78-30 nonconference win Monday in L’Anse.

Hart Holmgren led the winners (8-4) with 31 points.

The game was tied at 9 after six minutes before Ishpeming pulled away on an 8-0 run to close the quarter.

“Ishpeming’s athleticism and length took over the game and didn’t look back,” L’Anse coach Kyle Koski said. “They are a very talented and disciplined team. Holmgren and the two Yohes (Deondre and Darius) are tough as heck, and they don’t miss many shots.”

L’Anse’s Alec Rajala led the way with 11 points. The Purple Hornets shot just 11 of 44 from the field as the Hematites’ length consistently caused problems for them.

Next, L’Anse (3-10) heads to Lake Linden-Hubbell on Friday.
