Tech’s Monroe, Heath named GLIAC All-Conference

BAY CITY — Juniors Kyle Monroe and Bryan Heath of the Michigan Tech men’s basketball team earned All-GLIAC honors, announced Friday by the conference office. Monroe was named first team All-GLIAC for the second straight season while Heath was selected for second team All-GLIAC accolades.

Monroe leads the Huskies and the GLIAC in scoring at 28.1 points per game, which is also second best in all of NCAA Division II. Monroe has tied or broken three Tech records this season, including the most points scored in a single season. Monroe eclipsed the single-season scoring record with 45 points Wednesday night against Wayne State and now has 788 this season. He also broke the mark for most consecutive free throw makes (40) and tied the school record for most points in a single game (50) at Saginaw Valley State on Feb 8. Monroe has scored 1,815 career points going into the GLIAC Final Four.

Heath is averaging 13.3 points per game. Earlier this season, Heath surpassed 1,000 career points by pouring in 17 points against Purdue Northwest on February 3rd.

The Huskies, who are the No. 6 seed in the GLIAC Tournament, will face Lake Superior State on Saturday in the semifinals at 5 p.m. Tech upset No. 3 seed Wayne State 88-74 on Wednesday night in the quarterfinals to advance to the final four.
