Copper Royals: Calumet names top senior athletes
CALUMET — Lea Bjorn and Cooper Twardzik received Calumet High School’s most prestigious athletic awards at Thursday’s senior honors ceremony at the high school.
Bjorn earned a total of eight letters in volleyball, basketball and track. That included all-conference, all-state and all-region laurels in volleyball.
She was an all-league second team pick in basketball this past season and all-state in three events in track.
Bjorn, who posted a grade point average of 3.762, received the Holly Jean McCullah Award for her efforts.
Twardzik earned nine letters in football, basketball and track in his career. That included numerous awards in football and was an all-state, all-conference and all-U.P. Dream Team pick in his senior season.
He also collected second team all-league honors in basketball and was all-state in two track events.
He was awarded the George Gipp Award for his accomplishments and plans to attend Northern Michigan University in the fall.
