Prep baseball: Jeffers splits with Gogebic; Cal beats Hancock; L’Anse sweeps Houghton

STANTON — Jeffers and Gogebic split a doubleheader, Tuesday in Stanton, with Jeffers winning the first game 6-3 and Gogebic taking the second 13-4.

Carson Turner pitched Game 1 for the Jets and went all six innings while striking out seven and allowing one walk and four hits. He struck out the side to start the game and set the tone for Jeffers.

Offensively, the Jets were led by Evan Larson with two RBIs.

In Game 2, Gogebic scored three runs in the first inning and never relinquished the lead, tacking on six runs in the fourth inning.

The Jets struggled with command in the second contest with seven wild pitches contributing to the run total.

WOLVERINE — Calumet defeated visiting Hancock 14-0 in five innings of play on Tuesday in Wolverine.

The young Hancock squad — made up of nine players, including seven freshman — played shorthanded in the game with a player out sick.

The two teams played a scrimmage in the first matchup of the doubleheader.

L’ANSE — The Purple Hornets swept a two-game series against Houghton Tuesday in L’Anse. They won the first game 14-6, and the second 3-2.
