Copper Mountain Conference hands out awards

CHASSELL — The Chassell Panthers girls cross country team was honored recently by the Copper Mountain Conference for their efforts throughout the season. Named Team of the Year, the Panthers placed five girls on the All-Conference team as well as saw senior Lela Rautiola earn Runner of the Year honors.

Joining Rautiola on the First Team were Jenna Pietila, Paige Sleeman, Gwen Kangas, and Kamryn Sohlden.

Dollar Bay-Tamarack City’s Meg Keranen and Jeffers’ Keena Larson were also named to the First Team.

Dollar Bay’s Annie Miller, Kendra Kangas and Maggie Gaunt were joined by Ontonagon’s Emily Bradley on the Second Team, along with Vai Triggiano, Naomi Aili, and Macie Ahonen of Gogebic.

On the boys’ side, Gogebic was named Team of the Year thanks, in part, to the efforts of Uriah Aili, who was strong throughout the season and was named Runner of the Year.

Aili was joined on the First Team by teammates Devon Byers and Adam Mazurek. Chassell’s Ben Tuomi and Kurtis Kytta were also named to the First Team along with Ewen-Trout Creek’s Nikolas Thomas and Dollar Bay’s Davin Hill.

Three more Chassell boys made the second team in Daba Holmes, Elijah Soumis and Kolson Kytta. Dollar Bay’s John Paul Norland and Gogebic’s Kade Mazzon also made the team alongside Republic-Michigamme’s Andrew Olender and Justin Anthony.
