December 3

• Stuff a Blue Goose, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Marketplace Foods, Houghton. Troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post host “STUFF A BLUE GOOSE” Harvest Gathering charity event. The purpose is to raise food donations for local food pantries. A “BLUE GOOSE” patrol car will be at Marketplace Foods to haul donated items to local food pantries at the conclusion of the event. All participating grocery stores will have pre-made bags available for purchase, which will be stuffed in the “BLUE GOOSE”. Each bag will be pre-filled with non-perishable food items. You may also donate your own non-perishable food items.

• Edmund Fitzgerald Program, 6 p.m. Lake Linden-Hubbell High School Auditorium. Featuring Darren P. Muljo, Grandson of Ransom E’ Cundy Will share his grandfather’s legacy as a WWII vet and one of the few survivors of the Battle of Iwo Jima who perished on the Fitzgerald. State Rep. Karl Bohnak, a meteorologist, will break down the storm that sank the large freighter. Admission is by a donation to the local food shelf or the Toys for Tots program.

• Turning Life’s Perils into Writing Superpowers with Amanda Wais, 6:30 Calumet Public Library. Amanda Wais self-published her first book about Copper Harbor in 2012. Two years later (and pregnant), she published the next one while working as a freelance travel writer in Michigan. Join to hear more of Wais’ story and learn how you can create meaningful ripples from your own life’s struggles. A book signing will follow the presentation and books will be available for purchase as a fundraiser to benefit the library.

• Band Concert 7 p.m. The Calumet High School Band will stage its annual holiday concert at the Calumet Theatre. Attendance is free. A bake sale will be held to raise funds for their Disney 2026 band trip.

December 4

• Finnish Independence Day, 5:30 p.m. Finnish American Heritage Center. Finnish Independence Day has been celebrated in Hancock since 1918. This year, the spotlight shines on our younger generation, with performances by the Kivajat Dancers and the new Kuparikielet youth folk band. The 2026 Hankookin Heikki will also be announced, recognizing outstanding contributions to Finnish-American culture.

• Finnish Holiday Card & Language Workshop (Joulukorttipaja), 6-7 p.m. Portage Lake District Library. Create your own handmade holiday card while learning Finnish seasonal greetings! Local instructor Emily Kastamo will guide participants through simple card-making techniques and teach traditional Finnish phrases such as “Hyvää joulua!” and “Hauskaa joulua ja onnellista uutta vuotta!” All materials are provided. No prior language experience is needed. Free and open to the public.

• KNHP Open House, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Looking for something festive? The Keweenaw National Historical Park’s Calumet Visitor Center (98 5th St, Calumet) has something for you! Step into historical holiday cheer at the Holiday Open House. You’ll have the opportunity to engage in make-and-take holiday crafts inspired by 150 years of seasonal traditions. Three floors of interactive exhibits for all ages are open for exploration as well. Be sure to catch the Village of Calumet Sesquicentennial Exhibition on the third floor before it’s gone! All of this, and more, await you at this family-friendly event sure to be full of history and holiday magic.
