CCISD hires new special ed supervisor

Graham Jaehnig/Daily Mining Gazette Kristina Penfold, CCISD’s new Special Education Supervisor for Early Childhood, listens to an audit discussion at the recent regular CCISD board meeting.

HANCOCK — Kristina Penfold is the new Special Education Supervisor for Early Childhood at the Copper Country Intermediate School District. George Stockero, CCISD superintendent, introduced her to the board last Tuesday during the regular monthly meeting.

Penfold was a special education teacher for the L’Anse Area Schools for 12 years before being hired by the CCISD two years ago as an Early Childhood Special Education Service Provider. She has also served as the ISD’s Behavior Outreach/School Support Specialist, and most recently as Special Education/Early Childhood Coordinator.

“We are very happy to have her in this role,” Stockero said. “She’s got great skills, she’s going to catch up to speed, and she is excited.”

The board also accepted the resignation of Kortney Kangas, teacher of the Mild Cognitive Impairment Program at Hancock Middle School. Her resignation was effective November 11, 2016. Stockero said she had been with a ISD for a year and a quarter, but submitted her resignation for personal reasons.
