Officers respond to several accidents

IRON MOUNTAIN – Upper Peninsula officers responded to several vehicle accidents Wednesday and Thursday.

Iron Mountain Post troopers responded to a four vehicle traffic crash on M-95 near Sunset Lane in Sagola Township, Dickinson County, according to a release from Michigan State Police.

The accident was reported at 9:08 a.m. Thursday after a semi tractor hauling logs south on M-95 slid on black ice. The logs shifted and fell onto the roadway.

The loose logs set off a chain reaction overturning a second log truck and causing a third to lose logs when both tried to avoid the first truck’s loose load.

A passenger car slid into logs on the roadway.

All drivers were wearing seat belts and no alcohol use is suspected.

The Dickinson County Sheriff Department, Star EMS, Sagola Township Fire Department, DEQ, UP Environmental Services and several logging companies assisted state troopers in clearing the scene.

Troopers were unavailable before press time to confirm whether or not anyone was injured.

ONTONAGON – An ambulance was damaged after hitting a deer early Wednesday morning, according to Keweenawreport.com.

The Ontonagon Sheriff’s Office says SONCO South EMT James Hicks was driving the ambulance south on US-45 around 12:30 a.m. when a deer ran in front of the ambulance and was struck about 500 feet north of Three Mile Road.

The collision damaged the ambulance’s front bumper and grill. Hicks was not injured.

An Illinois man was injured in a snowmobile accident in Ontonagon County Wednesday.

The Ontonagon Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident near Woodspur Road on Trail 12 just before noon.

Michael Faucher of Lemont, Illinois was driving a 2009 Arctic Cat snowmobiling when he lost control rounding a curve in the trail.

Faucher was thrown from the snowmobile, injuring him and damaging his snowmobile.

The Ontonagon County Sheriffs Office, Sonco ambulance personnel and Michigan State Police rescued Faucher and transported him to Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital for treated. He was then taken to Aspirus Wausau hospital for further treatment.

Officials are considering speed a factor in the accident.
