Burglary, Arson Arrest: Juvenile charged in Stanton fire

STANTON TOWNSHIP — Troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post have apprehended an 15-year-old male on charges of breaking and entering and arson of a dwelling in connection with a May 26 house fire on the Houghton Canal Road from which money and guns were stolen, according to a release from the MSP post.

As a result of developed information, troopers apprehended the youth and recovered all of the stolen guns and nearly all of the money. The juvenile was petitioned to Houghton County Probate/Family Court.

On May 26, trooper responded to a suspicious fire in Stanton Township at about 10:20 p.m. In a news release, State Police said after the fire was extinguished by the Stanton and Adams Township fire departments, the elderly homeowner discovered money and guns were missing.

The fire, which was reported at 10:20 p.m., occurred near the Houghton Canal Road and Osma Plat Road and destroyed the home.

Due to the age of the offender, the release stated, no further details as to his identity can be released. Troopers would like to thank the public for their assistance. The incident remains under investigation.
