Alleged accident driver arraigned

EAGLE RIVER — A Laurium man pleaded not guilty to four felony counts stemming from an July crash that injured two people near Copper City in Keweenaw County Circuit Court Tuesday.

Devin Joyal, 23, faces two counts each of operating while intoxicated – causing serious injury and reckless driving – causing serious impairment of body function. Both are five-year felonies.

Two people were in the vehicle Joyal allegedly struck. Both were taken to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital after the crash. The driver was airlifted to Aspirus Wausau Hospital after the crash in critical condition.

Joyal’s attorney, Lauren Letto, said both sides were nearing a plea agreement.

Judge Charles Goodman set a pretrial for a date to be determined in October.
