American Legion post hosts dinner, silent auction

(Graham Jaehnig/Daily Mining Gazette) The Alfred Erickson American Legion Post 186 in Hancock will conduct a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on September 29, and includes a silent auction. The featured auction item is this 2018 autographed Green Bay Packers football.

HANCOCK — The Alfred Erickson American Legion Post 186 will hold their semi-annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser from Noon-4 p.m. on Sept. 29, according to Rod Guilbault, post commander. There is more to expect than just spaghetti, however.

In addition to spaghetti, salad, rolls, and the usual offerings, the Post Auxiliary will provide baked goods to included with the dinner.

At one time, auxiliaries were commonly called “Ladies’ Auxiliaries,” but terms change with time, and today, “Ladies” has been dropped at the Erickson Post, said Gilbault, because it includes spouses of veterans, both male and female.

There will also be a silent auction with various items, said Gilbault. One of is a 2018 autographed Green Bay Packers football. The last bid will be taken at the end of the dinner at 4 p.m.

As of the Friday, Gilbault said the bid on the football is $175, but the bidding will continue to the end of the dinner on Sept. 29.

“Most people have been increasing the bid by $25 or $50,” he said.

Tickets are $9 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under, and can be purchased from any Post 186 member, or by calling the post at (906)482-3750.

“The proceeds from the event go to the everyday operations of the post home,” said Gilbault. “The funds will keep the lights and the heat on until we have our next fundraiser in the spring.”
