Calumet schedules fall cleanup

CALUMET — The Village Council has announced its annual Fall Cleanup, which will run from Thursday, Oct. 12 through Oct. 20, for yard debris, such as leaves and tree branches.

Council Trustee Nathan Anderson said flyers announcing the dates have been distributed to the homes of residents, with the help of two children from the village.

Samantha Britten and Tyler Pittman, are local students from Calumet who helped Anderson spread the word about Fall Cleanup, he said.

“They distributed the flyers to every door to notify the residents of the time for cleanup.”

Anderson said the task only took Britten and Pitman two hours to complete.

The two students are examples of how the village can get the youth involved in their town, and cultivate a community spirit and belonging.

The flyers instruct residents to place leaves and branches at the curb for pickup. Leaves must be bagged or piled, and covered to protect them from the wind. Branches must be bundled together and and must be less than four feet in length, and three inches in diameter.

“The residents, as in past years, just need to get it to the curb, and we’ll get it done.”

Anderson also wants to remind parents that Trunk or Treat is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, and volunteers are needed to help give out candy.
