State Police reminds public to celebrate holidays responsibly

With marijuana now a legal substance in Michigan, the State Police Calumet Post would like to encourage the public to celebrate the holiday season responsibly. If holiday parties involve marijuana or alcohol, designate a sober driver before the party begins, advises Community Service Trooper Kevin Rajala in a press release. In addition, party hosts are asked to make sure all guests leave with a sober driver.

“Driving under the influence of alcohol or marijuana endangers everyone, from the driver to the passengers, to other people on the road,” said Rajala. “For safety’s sake, please don’t get behind the wheel if you’ve been drinking or using marijuana.”

In an effort to reduce traffic crashes and fatalities this holiday season, law enforcement officers will be on the the look-out for drunk or drugged drivers, In addistion, officers will be making sure motorists obey traffic laws, including using a safety belt and following speed laws.

“The holidays are a time to enjoy gatherings with friends and family,” said Rajala. “Together, we can make sure everyone celebrates safely.”
