Two Baraga County teens found dead

L’ANSE — Two Baraga County teenagers are dead and another is in a hospital in Green Bay after they were found in a car at the end of Silver Road, according to the Baraga County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a release, deputies responded to the scene at approximately 4:15 p.m. Monday, in response to a call in reference to a possible drunk driver. Deputies said the vehicle was running when they arrived. Two 17-year-old males, Dylan Roberts, of L’Anse, and Christopher Turpeinen, of Pelkie, were found to be deceased inside the vehicle.

A 17-year-old female, Hunter Pelon, was unconscious. She was removed from the vehicle and life-saving measures were initiated.

Pelon was then transported to Baraga County Memorial Hospital by Bay Ambulance, and was subsequently transported to a hospital in Green Bay, but her condition is unknown. Roberts and Turpeinen were pronounced dead at the scene by the medical examiner. Cause of death is unknown at this time, but asphyxiation is suspected, states the report. The case is under investigation. Autopsies are scheduled for the victims.

Baraga County Sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the scene by Bay Ambulance and the Keweenaw Bay Tribal Police.

The boys basketball game originally scheduled for Tuesday night involving the L’Anse Purple Hornets and the Calumet Copper Kings was postponed due to the accident. The game has been rescheduled for Feb. 27, with the junior varsity game to start at 5:45 p.m. and the varsity game to follow at 7:15 p.m.
