CCISD student place in HOSA Virtual Conference

HANCOCK — Copper Country ISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) Health Careers Classes held at L’Anse High School and the CCISD’s Career Tech Center in addition to the Certified Nurse Aide students recently took part in the HOSA Michigan Virtual Regional Conference. Students who placed will move on to the HOSA State conference to take place in April either online or in person with more details to be determined. Students utilized the parameters set by HOSA to create virtual materials and either as pictures and/or videos to share their hard work and be judged against their regional peers.  

HOSA is an international organization serving future health professionals by providing students with opportunities to develop as a leader and future employee. Through the HOSA Competitive Events Program, members can compete in teams or as individuals in over 55 difference events related to all aspects of the health career industry. HOSA integrates in the Health Science Education curriculum to develop and recognize dedicated and passionate future health professionals. All CCISD CTE Health Students have the opportunity to partake in HOSA for these enriching opportunities.   

CCISD CTE students were able to choose one event to take part in for the HOSA Regional Conference. Local students did very well placing in six separate events with multiple students placing in two different events during the virtual conference on Dec. 18 and 19, 2020. Events and students with schools are as follows; CPR/First Aid had Aimee Gherna (Lake Linden-Hubbell) and Zoie Thierry (Baraga) placed sixth, Sports Medicine had DySean Allen (L’Anse) place ninth, Nursing Assisting had Hunter Pelon (L’Anse) and Arieanna Dantes (L’Anse) place ninth and 10th respectively, Medical Law and Ethics had Kayla Kujansuu (L’Anse) place eighth, Health Careers had Kiera Collins and Taylor Turpinen (both from L’Anse) place fourth and Marielle Raasio and Eliana Wagner both from Houghton took first place. Lastly in Extemporaneous Writing – Online Test, Katherine Griffin from Lake Linden took first place gold. Congratulations are in order for all the students who completed in this great opportunity.
