Baraga elementary students to go virtual for rest of week

BARAGA — Transitional kindergarten through fifth-grade students at Baraga Area Schools will move to virtual learning for the rest of the week due to increasing COVID numbers among staff and students, Superintendent Richard Sarau announced Monday.

The staff and student shortages have gotten to an “unmanageable” level at the elementary school, Sarau said in a press release. He hoped the pause in in-person education would allow staff to return to full capacity.

“We know this is inconvenient for many families and we didn’t come to this decision lightly,” Sarau said. “We will be working hard today to get the materials your children will need in order to participate in virtual learning this week.”

Administrators could not be reached for further comment Monday afternoon.
