Arrow shooter gets sentenced

HANCOCK – A Hancock man was sentenced to four years, nine months to 10 years in prison Monday morning for shooting someone with a bow and arrow.

James Walters, Jr., 58, appeared for his sentencing hearing in Houghton County Circuit Court.

In exchange for a no contest plea, Walters pleaded no contest to assault with intent to do bodily harm less than murder. He had been charged with attempted murder.

Walters was arrested in February after shooting a 56-year-old man in the lower shoulder. Police said the dispute was over a cell phone.

Walters was credited with 65 days already served.
