Live, silent auctions at annual Dial Help Fundraiser Gala

HOUGHTON – Dial Help is celebrating 45 years of serving the Upper Peninsula by holding its 45th annual Fundraiser Gala from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Shelden Grill in the Magnuson Hotel in Houghton.

“It’s going to be similar to other fundraisers here,” Rebecca Crane, executive director of Dial Help said. “There will good food, a cash bar and lots of live and silent auction items.”

The food is more of a small plate, she said, “and people can pick and choose as they like to.”

At the event, Crane will be speaking, she said.

“I’ll be giving a presentation. I’ll give an overview that will kind of tell you what we do, besides the crisis line and stuff,” she explained. “We do so much. Our crisis line is only one-quarter of what we do, and a lot of people don’t know what all Dial Help does.”

In addition to Crane, Kevin Store of the Portage Health Foundation will also give a talk.

There is a large number of items up for auction, including 64 silent auctions, and seven live auction items. Among the live auction items are two sets of tires, one valued at $400, and a set of Nexen tires, valued at $600. Both sets were donated by Fine Line Tire.

“Fine Line Tire has been donating to us for a number of years,” Crane said, “and this year they’ve doubled their donation.”

The cost of a ticket is $50 and they will be available at the door. For more information, call 482-9077.
