Prosecutor running for re-election

ONTONAGON – Ontonagon County Prosecuting Attorney Michael D. Findlay is running unopposed as a Democrat in the Aug. 2 primary election.

Findlay handles state misdemeanors and felonies in the county, violations of county ordinances, and acts as the county’s attorney in civil litigation. His office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. He is on call weekends to approve search and arrest warrants, and advise and consult with law enforcement.

“I was appointed on May 1, 2015, after applying for the position,” Findlay said. “I wanted the job when I applied and still want the job because I’ve enjoyed my work, and I want to continue working for and with the people of Ontonagon County. I want to do my best to see that justice is done and serve the people.

“My current position as the Ontonagon County prosecuting attorney is the best job I’ve had. I feel privileged and extremely grateful to have it,” Findlay added.

He went to law school at the Michigan State University College of Law. However, when he graduated in 1988 the school was known as the Detroit College of Law.

Findlay and his wife Michelle have been married for 28 years and have three children: Connor who is 25 years old, Ian who is 23 and Grace who is 19.

“I enjoy the outdoors and spending time on the shore of Lake Superior, four-wheeling, walking, hiking and spending time with family and friends,” said Findlay.
