CCISD Board approves roof work

HANCOCK – Work is scheduled next month to re-roof a section of the Copper Country Intermediate School building at 809 Hecla Street in desperate need of repair.

The roof of the west wing of the building is 27 years old, said CCISD Superintendent George Stockero at the CCISD’s regular board meeting on Tuesday evening.

Stockero said one of his priorities is to ensure the up-to-date maintenance of the buildings owned by the CCISD.

“We have one section of roof over what I would say is our ancillary staff section, and it’s very spongy, it has had leaks,” Stockero said.

Two bids were received. Lake State Roofing, Inc. of Iron Mountain was the low bidder at $24,885 for the project of re-roofing the section of the roof. Stockero recommended the board accept the bid.

“They did do one of our sections four or five years ago, and they did a good job,” Stockero said, before the board voted unanimously to accept the bid.

The re-roofing project is scheduled for sometime in September, Stockero said.
