Motor sports business stays to grow

HANCOCK – For the owners of M&M Power Sports, there really was no thought of moving to another location when it became clear they needed more space, so they decided to stay put and expand, according to Michael Messner.

Messner, general manager of M&M Power Sports, said the business opened in 2004 in a former pump house for the Quincy Mine Company on Navy Street. Extensive renovation to the building was done before the business was established there.

“They did a total overhaul,” he said.

The new addition will house three maintenance bays, plus there will be room for storage.

“It’s going to be well over 2,000 square feet of service,” he said. “The two owners are committed to investing back into the company for growth.”

The owners are Steve Mattson and Kip McIntyre, Messner said.

Messner said M&M sells and services motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, pontoon boats and snowmobiles. There are five employees in sales and service.

“We service all makes and brands,” he said.

Messner said the owners chose to expand the current location rather than move to a new building because of its location. It is next to a recreation trail used by snowmobile riders, it is near Portage Lake, so boaters can access it easily, and it is across the street from the Ramada Inn, which is convenient for out-of-town visitors.

“They’ll specifically stay at the Ramada because we’re across the street,” he said.

Messner said he hoped the expansion will be completed in time for winter.

“We’re hoping for before the beginning of snow,” he said.
