Postal Lease: Agreement clears way for building repairs

PAINESDALE – U.S. Postal Service signed a new 10-year lease agreement which paves the way for Adams Township Schools to replace the leaky roof on the Painesdale Post Office.

School Superintendent Tim Keteri has been working on getting a new lease in place, to guarantee the school will be able to afford to pay for the estimated $20,000 to $25,000 project.

He said Wednesday it was just a matter of finding the right postal employee to talk to, after informing the School Board of the new lease. That person turned out to be Paul S. Frye, postal service real estate specialist and property manager for the Northeast and Great Lakes areas.

According to the two men, the postal service will pay $800 per month for the first five years, and $900 per month for the next five years.

“This allows so much flexibility to keep this open for the community,” Keteri said. “Without working together and coming to a consensus, this wouldn’t have happened. It’s a win-win for everybody.”

Frye told Keteri the new lease “will replace the existing month-to-month term dating to 1985 … and retain the same terms and conditions of the current lease: Postal Service pays for its exclusive-use electricity usage and janitorial inside our space; landlord provides for property taxes, maintenance to include common areas, heating fuel, water, sewer and snow removal.”
