Park Service vessel runs aground
Peregrine was bringing patient to mainland

HOUGHTON – A national park service boat ran aground early Saturday, while transporting a patient. According to a press release from Isle Royale National Park, at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, the 25-foot National Park Service (NPS) Vessel Peregrine ran aground on the break wall at the north end of the Keweenaw Upper Entrance near McLain State Park.
National Park Service staff were transporting a visitor with a medical emergency From Isle Royale to the mainland to seek further medical care when the accident occurred.
A U.S. Coast Guard Station Portage 45-foot response boat and crew affected a rescue of all aboard.
The NPS Peregrine was towed to Houghton on Saturday afternoon and there was no fuel or oil discharge. According to the press release, Isle Royale National Park appreciates the coordinated response and support from all involved.
