CVB creates One Community Calendar

CALUMET – The Keweenaw Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) has created a new “One Community Calendar” that allows viewers to see all the events going on at a time throughout the Copper Country, whether by the day, the week, or the month.

The concept of the calendar is to help people see what events are happening on a particular day, or during a specific time.

“My big push this summer was the One Community Calendar,” said Diane St. Amour, director of the CVB, “so that maybe we can stop having so many different things on one weekend. We can spread them out a little bit, so that everybody can attend and we can bring the tourism up here and make it last a little bit longer.”

For those who want to schedule an event, getting it posted on the calendar is simple.

“If you have an event coming up, or you want to hold an event, you can call up the ladies here, and they will help you to put it on a weekend where you can maybe get the best bang for your buck,” St. Amour said.

Those who have started using the calendar have found it to be very successful and it relieves them of the time and energy of posting their own announcements.

“We have a lot of people who are coming on board with that,” said St. Amour. “All of the national park and historic sites, they’re all on our calendar. They only use ours. In fact, they shut their calendars down because we do it.”

The chamber of commerce lists upcoming conferences and things, but doesn’t list anything else, CVB social media director Amanda Oppe said. “For everything else, they send people here.”

St. Amour is pleased with the calendar, which is downloadable at the CVB website.

“This calendar is nice, because you can download it for the day, you can download it for the week, you can download it for the month,” said.

Oppe, who designed the CVB phone app, available through google play, is equally satisfied with the new calendar.

“And now with the app,” she said, “when they submit an event through the website, it automatically gets published on the app, too.”

Those interested can see the One Community Calendar at the CVB website at http://www.keweenaw.info. The CVB telephone number is 800-338-7982 toll free, or 337-4579.
